Hi Folks! Yes, it has been awhile since the last blog post. I usually write what I consider to be super blog material while driving my car on errands and such. Then I get back home and the thoughts have -poof- disappeared, or I get busy with the baby, house, etc, etc. I am sure I'm not alone here though.

So, really felt like a slacker not posting recently, and will be posting shortly o
n our family's latest adventures. In the meantime, thought I'd throw out some random details... here they are:
First, love, love, love to read. It doesn't happen nearly as often these days and that makes sense. I don't think reading is a common activity for anyone with a ten-month old child. Needless to say, I do make it a priority when possible and that is typically in the evening after baby bedtime and hanging out with my husband. That became a reality about four months ago because until then, when baby fell asleep so did mama. I try to keep my "currently reading" list diverse, so my brain doesn't wither too much. These days, am reading goofy teeny bop vampire series (never thought I would, but it is REALLY good for light, fun fiction!!), Alan Greenspan's tome - but I think he's lost a bit of credibility given the '08 economic picture - , and 'A Passage to India', which is so far a super classic (wanted to read 'A Room with a View' by same author after seeing the PBS remake of it last month, but our used bookstore didn't have it at the time).
Secondly, really enjoy watching good snow skiers coming down a hill. And that has worked out well for me because my husband is an excellent skier... in fact, he's so good he raced on his college ski team for four years and nailed it every time! His parents started taking him and his sister when he was five and she, nine. It is so fun to watch how effortlessly he seems

to swish down the slopes. When I come down the slope, I don't think I make a 'swish' sound but something more like scratching and occasional grunt sounds - I'm ok, but my husband is great at it.
(The photo is of my husband and me not skiing - out of the thousands of photos we've saved on this computer, not one is of us on the slopes. Sigh--- But we are at the top of a really amazing piece of history, even if we couldn't take a lift to get there.)
And another neat thing about skiing with him is that he is very patient with other less talented "skiers" - he doesn't mind coaching someone down a tough hill or retrieving a pole that some buffoon on skis accidentally chucked ten feet below him. He likes the camaraderie of skiing and the feel, he says, of just hanging out on the mountain. That is so cool.
Thirdly, it bugs me when people say First of all, then second of all, etc, etc. It is first of all, secondly, thirdly, and so forth. Also when people say "supposably" - who made up that one?!? - it is frustrating to hear. I am positive I make grammatical mistakes as well. I have no doubt of that. But this is my blog, so I am writing about random things right now and this is my random rant on grammar. If you, dear reader, would like to respond with your own notes on grammar, feel free. Just be sure you post it as a comment to the blog and not as an email to me (it's really not that tough to figure out how to leave a comment). My final BIG grammatical pet peeve is when people confuse farther and further. The reason it is my BIG pet peeve right now is that I hear from various people a bit on their opinions of manners, but then they throw "further" into a sentence when they mean "farther". Grammar is a part of manners, so I don't think we should rank which is more important. A person doesn't need to drive a little further to get somewhere - that's impossible; But that person may need to drive a bit farther to arrive at a destination. If it's distance related, think "far" and then yes, you've got it... it is farther! If it is in addition to, then further is your word of choice. Easy, peasy!! Now, someone school us on their grammar peeves... See you, folks!
